8 Odisha villagers abducted at Gunpoint by Maoists


Malkangiri: Eight persons from Mahupadar village in Mathili block on Odisha – Chhattisgarh   border were allegedly abducted by suspected Maoists. The incident is said to have taken place in the wee hours today, according to the police sources.

The village was attacked by a group of armed Maoists, about 10 to 20 in number, in the pre-dawn hours. Eight tribal villagers were called out of their houses by the attackers. They were later taken away at the gun points, police sources stated. T reason behind the abduction is yet unknown, but it is believed that the villagers were kidnapped by the rebels on the suspicion of being police informers.  The area has been gripped by panic after the untoward incident. An extensive search operation has been launched by the police in the area to speed up the process of recovery of the abducted people, as reported by sources in the district police headquarters.
