Nabakalebar Rath Yatra begins in Puri under high security arrangements

Puri: The world famous Nabakalebar Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and His siblings is all set to begin in Puri on Saturday.  According to the temple festival schedule, Mangal Aarati at 6 am will mark the beginning of the ritual. It will be followed by Rosahoma at 6.30 am, Abakash at 7 am, Suryapuja at 7.30 and Khichidi Bhog at 8 am, in the temple sanctum sanctorum. In the meantime, the three Raths parked outside the Simhadwar of the temple, would be consecrated by the Purohit of the temple.

The Pahandi of the deities will begin at 10 am and would be completed by 1 pm. This would be followed by the ritual called Chherapahanra, which involves sweeping around the deities with a golden broom stick. The ritual would be performed by the Gajapati King Dibyasingh Dev, who is the foremost servitor of the lord. It will commence at 2 pm and end by 3 pm. At 3.30 pm, the chariots would be drawn by the devotees, one after the other. The procession would be led by Taladhwaja of Lord Balabhadra, followed by Darpadalan of Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosh will come at the end.

High tech security arrangements have been made to make sure that the Yatra is conducted smoothly. The security personnel deployed for this purpose include 10000 police personnel of various ranks, a number of platoons of Rapid Action Force (RAF), hundreds of Marine Police security personnel, along with those of the Navy and the Coast Guard. Additionally, 1100 firemen with 85 fire tender machines would also be present at the venue.

According to Sarat Sahu, Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, there is likelihood of light rainfall in Puri. The center has stated further that a cyclonic circulation can cause heavy rainfall at a few places in the interior of the state, but Puri is likely to have only light showers on Saturday.
