Survey work for Coastal Highway Begins


Balasore: It has been reported that a private organization has been hired by the Center to carry ahead the job of making a survey related to the construction of a proposed highway, which would be built to connect Gopalpur in Odisha with Digha in West Bengal.

The proposed highway will traverse Chandaneswar and Chandipur in Balasore district, Basudevpur of Bhadrak district, Satabhaya of Kendrapara district, Nuagaon of Jagatsinghpur district, Astaranga, Konark and Satapada of Puri district and Chattrapur and Gopalpur of Ganjam district.

It was declared four days ago at Pipli by Nitin Gadkari, Union Transport Minister, that a coastal highway would be constructed by the Central Government, to serve as national highway. The minister said during a function that the highway would be built with a purpose of helping authorities to carry out relief and rescue operations in a more efficient manner, in the event of cyclones.
An estimated amount of Rs 5000 crore is likely to be spent on construction this coastal highway, which will span a distance of 500 km
